Meaning Does Not Wait for You to Get It Right
I am tired of the idea that meaning waits around a corner for people who finally figure out how to walk correctly. We talk about it like a missing puzzle piece that will click into place once we stop making mistakes. That is a strange way to treat a basic human need. It turns a normal part of living into a performance review.
Meaning does not arrive after you pass some invisible test. It is just what happens when you keep doing a thing long enough to stop asking whether it matters. You pick a direction, you move forward, and eventually the questioning gets quiet because you are too busy handling the actual work. The value does not come from some grand revelation. It comes from repetition. You handle the same tasks, answer the same messages, fix the same worn parts, and after a while you realize you are not doing it for a reward. You are doing it because you decided it belongs to you. The decision itself does the heavy lifting. You stop waiting for a sign and just keep moving. Most people want a guarantee that the effort will eventually feel lighter. It rarely does. You just get used to the weight.
The problem is that sticking with something does not magically make it enjoyable. You can commit to a path and still wake up annoyed by it. You can care about your work and still count the hours until you get to leave. The meaning does not erase the friction. It just sits there while you handle it. People expect the payoff to arrive as a steady sense of purpose. Instead you get a flat afternoon where everything feels heavy and you wonder why you bothered. That feeling does not mean you chose wrong. It means you are paying attention to the actual cost of the choice. You wanted the commitment to feel noble. It feels like maintenance. Maintenance is exhausting. You still have to do it. That friction does not erase the point. It just proves you are actually paying attention to the cost.
I do not think the goal is to find a version of life that stops feeling like a chore. The goal is to pick chores you are willing to carry without needing them to make you feel special. Fatigue will still show up. You will still wonder why you bother. You keep going because leaving things unfinished feels worse than the daily grind. That is not a triumph. It is just a decision you renew every morning. Some days it works. Some days it does not. You keep your hands on the work and see what happens.
Keep going
